Bestselling author of five novels including A Woman's Guide to Adultery and Keeping the Faith.

Carol Clewlow began her career as a journalist. She wrote the second  of the first Lonely Planet travel guides, Hongkong and Macau, after meeting founders Tony and Maureen Wheeler while travelling.

Her first novel, Keeping the Faith, was shortlisted for the Whitbread First Novel Award, and her second - the bestselling A Woman's Guide to Adultery - long listed for the Booker Prize, translated into 15 languages and turned into a television drama starring Sean Bean. Her third novel Love in the Modern Sense - and several of her short stories - have been produced on BBC Radio 4. She is also the author of One For the Money, performed at the Edinburgh Fringe, and Not Married, Not Bothered (HarperCollins).  

 

A former Royal Literary Fellow, she was the first Writer in Residence in a UK medical school, and was a founder member of Operating Theatre, for whom she wrote plays on health and medical issues. She lives in Tyneside and is currently working on a new novel.
